Your 8 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival for the 8 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari

Upon arrival at the airport, you will meet up with your driver guide from Silverback gorilla tours Tour Agency who will warmly welcome you to the “Land of a Thousand Hills”. After a word of briefing about this tour, the guide will transfer you to your hotel, rest for a lunch break and then in the afternoon, you may opt for a brief tour of Kigali city or transfer to Akagera national park reaching late in the evening (2 hours journey drive). Dinner and overnight at your booked hotel/lodge.

Day 2: Wildlife Safari Game Drive in Akagera National Park

On this day, we set early in the morning for a wildlife safari game drive where we will look out for the big game including Elephants, Lions, Black Rhinos, Buffaloes, Zebras, Giraffes, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, and many more animals. The game drives in Akagera national park usually take place in the northern sector of the park. In the late afternoon hours, retire to the lodge for lunch after which you will go for a boat ride safari where you will see various water-loving mammals such as the Hippos and crocodiles. Retire in the evening at the lodge for your dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

This morning we continue with our Wildlife tour heading to the Nyungwe Forest National Park located south of Rwanda with lunch en-route stopover in Huye formerly known as Butare which is a center of Rwanda cultural heritage and the ethnographic museum of Rwanda that was formerly known as the national museum of Rwanda, here we will learn about the culture and history of the Rwandan people. Late in the evening, we arrive at the park headquarters to check-in for accommodation. Dinner and overnight at your booked lodge/hotel.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Have a primates experience on this day of your wildlife tour in Rwanda. Nyungwe Forest is home to over 13 primates the majority being the chimpanzees. The activity of trekking the chimpanzees takes you in the thick Nyungwe forest to experience and appreciate nature. The activity which starts very early in the morning requires you to be at the park headquarters at exactly 5.30 am for a must-attend chimpanzee trekking briefing where you will receive information on how to behave and possible length of your trek. Your ranger guide will lead you to either the Uwinka trailhead or the Cyamudongo sector for chimp trekking. After the trek retire back to the lodge for yet another coming day of yet another safari experience in Rwanda

Day 5: Transfer from Nyungwe to Volcanoes National Park

Wake up to a morning breakfast as you reminisce of the previous primates tracking in the forest. After your breakfast, get prepared for a long hour (6 hours) journey to the Volcanoes national park in Musanze, North of Rwanda arriving late in the evening to check-in at the hotel hoping to meet the gorillas the next morning. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National ParkMeet the mountain gorillas in the dense jungles of the Virunga ranges. The trek to the gorillas starts with a briefing at the park headquarters in Kinigi where you are assigned a ranger and gorilla family to trek. The trek through the jungle of volcanoes national park is a fulfilling unforgettable experience that many people look to undertake. The trek can last from an hour or less to several hours later depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night – you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience and remember to pace yourself as you trek.

Depending on the time the gorilla tracking lasts, you have opportunities for a cultural group performance by visiting a cultural village or take a community walk. Meal plan – Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Kivu (Gisenyi) towards the end of the 8 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari

Lake KivuAs you retreat yourself with memories of the past experience with the mountain gorillas, we will set off for Gisenyi on the shores of Lake Kivu. This will be more of a rest day for you to think through your entire journey exploring Rwanda on the shores to the beautiful Lake Kivu. The activities you can engage in include a visit to the hot springs, take a boat trip to an island, kayaking on lake Kivu, visit the DR Congo – Rwanda border, and relax at the lakeside in the evening sipping away to your favourite.

Day 8: Transfer to Kigali City and end of 8 Days Rwanda Wildlife Safari, Departure

Early in the morning of your last day of the trip, you will transfer to the airport for your exit flight, in case you have some time before your flight you can have a short Kigali city tour.
