Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Location

At the centre of a tea plantation and reached via a rough track at the western extremity of Nyungwe forest. The red roof of Nyungwe House is practically invisible until you are almost upon it. A 20-minute drive from the Uwinka reception centre (the main access point for the National Park) and five hours from the Rwandan capital Kigali, this is the perfect place to base yourself for rainforest walks and primate trekking.

Each has a forest-view balcony, lie-down-on-me-now four-poster bed, dark bamboo flooring and plenty of warm fabric on show. There’s a wood stove as well as air-conditioning. The bath is splendidly deep and there is a raft of Africology unguents to sample. A cloche of biscuits arrives at turn-down time and a rucksack is supplied for your hikes.

Nyungwe forest lodge has luxury facilities such as a gym and a swimming pool, and over looks the forest canopy so you are guaranteed some good views of the scenery in the area. It has comfortable luxury rooms, one of them even has a jacuzzi.

There is access to WIFI, and telephone services, so you can communicate to people back home. There are also sate-lite TVs in the rooms to keep you in touch with the rest of the world.
