Akagera Game Lodge is one of the few accommodation options within Rwanda’s Akagera National Park, adjacent to the Tanzanian border. More of a hotel than a traditional safari lodge, it has fantastic views over Lake Ihema, with a big swimming pool perched on the edge of the savannah.
The large reception area at Akagera Game Lodge is dotted with African carvings and pieces of art, and incorporates a small curio shop. Up a spiral staircase you’ll find the bar – with chunky wooden bar stools lining a long wooden bar, some chairs and tables, and a TV. The bar opens out onto a wooden terrace which overlooks the pool below. The large restaurant also has an outside decked area where meals can be served.
Outside, set in extensive tropical gardens, are two floodlit tennis courts that guests can use for free, a children’s play area, and a small children’s pool, as well as a lovely big circular swimming pool with sunloungers overlooking the lake. A small massage area completes the picture.
Activities at Akagera Game Lodge concentrate on game drives in Akagera National Park. These are usually conducted by your own driver-guide, accompanied by a wildlife guide provided by the Rwandan National Parks (who are generally quite knowledgeable and fairly communicative).
Accommodation & Rooms at Akagera Game Lodge
Akagera game lodge has got many rooms including singles, doubles, as well as twin rooms. There are also family as well as executive suites plus the luxury cottages. Each of the rooms has got a private verandah which offers fantastic views that overlook Lake Ihema. The guests can also enjoy the very beautiful sights of the sun that sets over from the distant horizon, in the comfort of their rooms.
The akagera game lodge rooms are mostly decorated in an African style touch and each of these rooms has got beds, satellite TV, a chair and a desk. The interior décor of each room has been carefully done and this follows an African theme with good lighting. Also the paths to the rooms are well lit subsequently which enables the guests to walk easily to their rooms at night.
There is a highly qualified and skilled team that manages the lodge and their main responsibility is to ensure that client’s expectations are met during their visit. This lodge has got a double storey structure with a very large reception area that was decorated with pieces of African Art, and the African carving. This lodge also has a small souvenir shop where you can buy some items of interest. The lodge has also got a bar.
