Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival to Kigali International Airport for the 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Flying Safari.

After landing at Kigali Airport, you will be transferred to a waiting helicopter for the flight to Virunga Lodge in Volcanoes National Park. Located at the top of a high ridge that affords you lovely views of Lakes Bulera and Ruhonda as well of the famous volcanoes and the cloud formations that frequently surround them, the lodge is so comfortable and contemporary. Spend the late afternoon enjoying a complimentary massage or have a short walk to visit Lake Bulera and Mwiko School.

Dinner and overnight at Virunga Lodge/Bisate Lodge

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Today you wake up so early and have breakfast before proceeding to the park headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. You will spend an hour observing a mountain gorilla family in their natural habitat, wondering at how the young ones play and the adults communicate through meaningful grunts and almost human expressions. You will trek through meaningful grunts and almost human expressions. Trek through light mountain forest in Volcanoes National Park under the watchful eye of your guide and the trackers who will help you through the dense vegetation.

And depending on how far the gorillas have moved overnight and the weather, tracking is slower when it’s wet and muddy, you could also spend a day away from the lodge. You will also be able to observe them from a safe distance for the maximum of an hour to ensure as little impact on these great apes as possible.

After the trek, return back at the Lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Explore Village life.

You can opt to do another gorilla trek on this day in case the permits are available or you can track the golden monkeys that are so adorable with blue faces and are still quite a mystery to scientists as not a lot is known about their diet.

You can opt to visit the Dian Fossey tomb and gorilla commentary she founded as the resting place to poached gorillas. You could also immerse yourself in the life of a typical Rwandan village near Lake Bulera to tour the Imbabazi Orphanage and local flower plantation, having lunch with the staff and leaning more about the area.

There is also an option pre relaxation, venture to the pristine beaches on Lake Kivu to soak up a day of African sun shine.

Dinner and overnight as above.

Day 4: Fly back to Kigali on the last day of the 4 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Flying Safari

Have breakfast at the lodge and check out of the lodge. You are driven a short distance to the Helipad for your helicopter transfer back to the capital.  Later, you can have your flight back home.
