During the journey, your guide will introduce you to Uganda’s natural heritage and explain the importance of protecting its tropical forests and wildlife. Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale Forest National Park
You will begin the day with an early breakfast before travelling to the park visitor centre for a briefing by experienced rangers. After learning about forest safety and responsible wildlife viewing, you will enter Kibale Forest with your guide and trackers to search for wild chimpanzees. The walk takes you beneath a canopy of tropical trees, through lush vegetation and along forest trails where you may encounter other primates, butterflies and colourful bird species. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will have the opportunity to observe their social behaviour, including feeding, grooming, playing and communication within their group. The duration of the trek depends on the chimpanzees’ movements and forest conditions, so comfortable walking shoes and suitable rain protection are recommended. After returning from the forest, you will enjoy lunch and some time to relax at your lodge. In the afternoon, you may visit Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided nature walk, where you can learn about wetland conservation, community initiatives and the rich birdlife of the area. You will return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Scenic Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and begin the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to a significant population of endangered mountain gorillas. The drive takes you through the scenic countryside of southwestern Uganda, with views of rolling hills, traditional homesteads, cultivated slopes and lively local trading centres. Along the way, your guide will share information about Uganda’s communities, regional cultures and the conservation importance of the forests you are visiting. You will stop for lunch during the journey before continuing towards your designated gorilla trekking sector. As you approach Bwindi, the landscape becomes increasingly mountainous, and dense rainforest covers the surrounding hills and valleys. On arrival, you will check in at your lodge and enjoy time to relax while taking in the forest scenery. Your guide will explain the next day’s gorilla trekking arrangements, including the early morning briefing, walking conditions and recommended equipment. You will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, preparing for one of the most memorable experiences of your safari.

Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
You will wake up early and enjoy breakfast before travelling to the designated park briefing point for your mountain gorilla trekking experience. Experienced rangers will explain the trekking guidelines, safety procedures and conservation rules before assigning you to a habituated gorilla family. Accompanied by rangers and trackers, you will enter the rainforest and follow trails through dense vegetation, uneven ground and steep forested slopes in search of the gorillas. The trek may take several hours depending on the family’s location and the terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness and suitable hiking equipment are recommended. Once the gorillas are located, you will spend the permitted one hour observing their natural behaviour, including feeding, grooming, resting and interactions between adults and young gorillas. Your guide will help you appreciate their social structure and explain the conservation efforts that protect their habitat. After the trek, you will return to the starting point and transfer back to your lodge for lunch or a late meal, depending on the timing. The remainder of the afternoon will be available for relaxation, photography around the lodge or an optional community visit before dinner.
Accommodation options: Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, Mahogany Springs Lodge, Four Gorillas Lodge.

Day 5: Batwa Cultural Experience and Guided Nature Walk in Bwindi
After breakfast, you will enjoy a cultural and nature-focused day around Bwindi, providing a different perspective on the region beyond its famous mountain gorillas. Depending on your lodge location and the activities available, you may take part in a guided Batwa cultural experience led by community members. You will learn about the Batwa people’s historical connection to the forest, their traditional knowledge of forest plants, storytelling, music and dance. The experience can also introduce you to the changes communities have experienced through conservation and the importance of sustainable livelihoods around protected areas. Later, you may enjoy a guided nature walk along an appropriate forest trail, discovering indigenous trees, plant life and the rich bird diversity of the Bwindi region. Your local guide will explain how the rainforest supports wildlife and contributes to the protection of the wider Albertine Rift ecosystem. After lunch, you will have time to relax at the lodge, enjoy the surrounding views or visit a nearby community project if available. In the evening, you will enjoy dinner and reflect on your encounters with Uganda’s primates and cultural heritage.

Day 6: Departure from Bwindi to Entebbe
You will enjoy breakfast at your lodge before checking out and beginning your return journey to Entebbe International Airport. Depending on your lodge’s location, flight schedule and the airstrip serving your trekking sector, you may transfer to Kihihi or Kisoro for a domestic flight to Entebbe, or travel by road if that arrangement has been confirmed. A domestic flight can significantly reduce travel time and may provide scenic aerial views of Uganda’s forested hills, valleys and countryside. If travelling by road, you will pass through southwestern Uganda’s highlands and rural communities, with a lunch stop arranged along the way. Your guide will coordinate the transfer according to your departure arrangements and allow time for airport formalities. During the journey, you can reflect on the chimpanzee-tracking experience in Kibale, the mountain gorilla encounter in Bwindi and the cultural discoveries made throughout the safari.
