3 Days Uganda Luxury Gorilla Trekking Safari in Bwindi

Day 1: Transfer or Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your luxury gorilla trekking safari begins with an early pick-up from your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic journey towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. If you choose the road option, you will travel through Uganda’s countryside, passing traditional homesteads, cultivated hills, roadside markets and rural communities. You will stop for lunch along the way and continue towards the mountainous landscapes of south-western Uganda, where the scenery becomes increasingly lush and dramatic. Alternatively, you can take a scheduled domestic flight from Entebbe or Kajjansi to an airstrip serving your Bwindi trekking sector, followed by a transfer to your lodge. On arrival, check in at your luxury accommodation and enjoy the peaceful rainforest surroundings, with opportunities to appreciate the views and listen to the sounds of the forest. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a guided community walk or simply relax at the lodge before dinner. Your guide will brief you about the following day’s gorilla trekking experience, including what to pack, the park rules and the importance of responsible wildlife viewing.

Accommodation options: Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge, Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, Four Gorillas Lodge.

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast, you will travel to the relevant park headquarters for a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about mountain gorilla behaviour, forest safety, trekking guidelines and the rules designed to protect the gorillas and their habitat. You will then join a ranger-led trek into Bwindi’s dense rainforest, following forest trails and natural paths as your team searches for a habituated gorilla family. The duration and difficulty of the trek depend on the gorillas’ location, the terrain and the weather, so you should be prepared for a physically demanding experience. Once the gorillas are located, you will generally be allowed to spend one hour observing them from the required distance, watching adults feed and groom one another while young gorillas play under the watchful presence of their family members. Your guide and rangers will help you understand their behaviour while ensuring that the encounter follows conservation regulations. After the trek, return to the starting point and transfer back to your lodge, where you can enjoy lunch, relax with a spa treatment if available, or take in the forest views from your private terrace. In the evening, enjoy dinner and reflect on the remarkable experience of encountering mountain gorillas in the wild.

Day 3: Departure

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your lodge while taking in the tranquil surroundings of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Depending on your departure arrangements, you may have time for a short guided nature walk near the lodge or a brief community visit to learn about local traditions, crafts and the relationship between neighbouring communities and the forest. These activities are optional and should be arranged in advance if you wish to include them. After breakfast, check out and begin your transfer to the airstrip for your domestic flight to Entebbe or Kajjansi, or start the return road journey to Kampala or Entebbe. If travelling by road, you will pass through the scenic highlands and rural settlements of south-western Uganda, with a planned stop for lunch where appropriate. Travelling by air offers a faster return and may provide beautiful views of Uganda’s landscapes from above, although flight availability depends on the season and the trekking sector you visit. On arrival in Entebbe or Kampala, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward international flight or to your preferred hotel. Your three-day luxury safari concludes with unforgettable memories of Uganda’s mountain gorillas and the extraordinary rainforest environment they call home.
